Customer Expectations and FAQ: Cabinet Painting

What do I need to do to prepare my house for cabinet refinishing?

Customer's responsibility

To be ready for cabinet refinishing in your home:
1) remove all objects from your cabinets and on top of countertops
2) have all valuable items put away that you don't want dusty in the area
3) move all extra furniture in those rooms elsewhere if you can
4) make the floors as empty as possible
5) have a few house air filters ready to change throughout the process
6) make arrangements for food for a few days if necessary
7) be ready to have limited or no access to the rooms being finished
8) if you're concerned about the smell of the paint (it's stinky)--make plans to board your dogs or stay elsewhere for a few days
9) WIPE DOWN CABINETS WITH ANTI GREASE (Krudkutter is recommended) to avoid any future oil from showing through. Recommended to do inside and outsides of doors and cabinet faces.

What to expect during the process?

Your room will be covered in plastic/drop clothes during the process. When spraying cabinets we need to cut off the rest of your home from any spray in the air.  Be prepared to confine yourselves to part of the home or even consider leaving your home for a few days to avoid the smell.

Our process typically includes:

1) removing all doors and hardware to be taken to our home to finish

2) sand doors and cabinets to prepare for primer

3) prime doors and cabinet faces with spray machine

4) re-sand to prepare for paint

5) paint doors with spray machine

6) touch up and install hardware back

7) clean up plastic/tape/paper

There can be some variability to this process with different paints/primers and preexisting finish on your cabinets

Post cabinet refinishing:

Be careful with your new cabinets for a few weeks. The paint needs time to cure to be hard. You can use them but just be mindful of long nails and grabbing handles.

Can you stain cabinets too?

YES! Just ask just about options for this.
